Ecosystem ecology is the study of the movement of energy & matter across ecosystems. These are one of a fundamental disciplines of ecology. Ecosystem ecology operates at the shell above that of communities but it is defined additional by subject matter than by shell.

Ecosystem ecology deals using locally defined ecosystems which exchange matter & energy by owning their surroundings. Ecosystem ecology concerns itself by owning such arewhen as nutrient cycling (especially the carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycles), Gross & Nett Primary Productivity (GPP, NPP), trophic kinetics and food chains.
